Environmental – Social Projects

Tekoá supports social projects and conservation in theareas in which it operates through the promotion of tourist activities in them, such as Acolhida na Colônia, the Training Institute of Uatapi and ecovolunteer program at Ekko Brazil Institute.

Acolhida na Colônia

Farmers association that promotes ecological agrotourism since 1998, in properties of organic agriculture in the state of Santa Catarina. It integrated the French Network Accueil Paysan (active in France since 1987). It is mainly aimed to enhance the way of life in the field. Farmers “open their doors” to show visitors their simple way of life and their ecologicalpracticesthrough subsistence and organic agriculture.

The goal is to share with visitors the traditional knowledge, stories, culture and landscapes during conversations at the edge of the wood stove. In addition to the trained properties to work with tourism, the Acolhida together with its partners developed a line of products, which is a result from the production associated to tourism. They have local craftwork and it has made available for direct sale onits their website at the following link, ARTESANATO.

Through this work, the producers use their own resources and perform an authentic work that “escapes” imitation and are continuing the work of their ancestors contributing to the rescue and the permanence of original forms of Santa Catarina
culture.

Instituto Ekko Brasil

Situated on the banks of Lagoa do Peri, the NGO’s mission is to study and maintenance of biodiversity, conservation of ecosystems and endangered species, in order to contribute to improving the
quality of life and provide a positive legacy for future generations.

Several projects are executed including Lontra Brazil (Otter Brazil), which is responsible for the care, recovery, conservation and expansion of the technical knowledge of otters, tayras and ferrets. In addition, the institute has been working on an awareness campaign to tourists and to the communities living in thevicinity of projects through sustainable practices and conservation tourism, receiving volunteers around the world to participate in the project.

The place has a visitor center for environmental education, educational trails and conducts training courses and community empowerment.
